In the southern portion of Vienna, the BUWOG Group erected 164 owner-occupied and 78 rental flats, nestled in a park-like green area.

The development’s southward orientation provides the 5 free-standing houses, each of which  houses between 19 and 84 residential units, a bright and natural atmosphere with plenty of privacy. This new development was erected in 2 years with HANDLER as general contractor. The modern flats and duplexes with garden, terrace or balcony offer a high level of comfort. The surroundings were landscaped like a park, putting rest and relaxation right at the front door. The development also enjoys a prime infrastructure, with easy access to private and public transportation.

Right in the heart of Mödling, near the old town, the HANDLER Group is realizing a project with flats, commercial and office spaces. The historic original building from the year 1899 is to be preserved and renovated in the process.

Klostergasse 22

In addition to dining and office spaces, the project at Klostergasse 22 in the city centre offers well-conceived, light-flooded flats in older and new construction styles, with plenty of outdoor spaces. As a former hotel, which later housed the Dorotheum and finally a specialty store for paint and crafts materials, the building has a great deal of character and is a local treasure for long-time Mödling residents, and the arcade running through it offers a perfect connection to the inner city. Upon successful completion, the locally famous building will combine a modern new construction with a lovingly renovated and modernized older building. A perfect example of how to bring old and new under one roof.

The pioneer project for today’s timber construction: the clear hybrid building concept was selected for the 84-meter-high timber high-rise in Seestadt aspern. The HANDLER Group acted as general contractor.

Seestadt aspern

The deliberately simple system is based on stacking four prefabricated serially produced construction elements. It was also necessary to develop a single core detail that could be used for all connections between building parts. This yields an economical, highly flexible and safe building with an impressive degree of sustainability. 
Timber is a natural resource and has been used as a resource-saving building and working material in the construction industry for many years. It also makes a significant contribution to active climate protection: timber used in building saves the atmosphere from CO2 for decades.

The ambitious construction project in the Auhofstraße 205 / Lilienberggasse 10 has stood out as one of the most successful combinations of old and new in residential construction / mixed use construction since its completion in fall 2016.

The disparate parts in the interior of the property were removed, but the entire street section was preserved and renovated in accordance with historical models. The façade of the existing building was given a white coat, and the green and white box windows and wrought iron balcony elements contribute to the property’s distinctive and impressive look, which is reinforced by the extensive reconstruction of the imposing roof dormers. These, like the rest of the roof, are covered with diamond-shaped, anthracite-coloured Eternit shingles. The same structures, translated into a modern architectural language, were also applied to the newly erected buildings, giving the property an impressive overall visual effect.

The kindergarten consists of three buildings and is one of Vienna’s showcase projects. Selecting ecologically responsible building materials was a top priority.

The undergirding system consists largely of prefabricated timber parts, and the entire façade features exposed wood. 
It was necessary to allow the kindergarten to continue operating smoothly during the reconstruction. One house was therefore set aside to keep everything running while construction work was done on two or three buildings simultaneously. In the second phase of construction, operations were relocated to the finished buildings so that the third could be completed. 
It was important that we were also tasked with the planning, making HANDLER involved from day one of the project. HANDLER was therefore not only responsible for keeping the quality and scheduling requirements, but also for ensuring that the building plans complied with all applicable laws, guidelines and regulations.

Kindergarten Pötzleinsdorf

The building, originally completed in 1874, is a monumental, historic residential and commercial building in the Viennese Renaissance Revival style. HANDLER was tasked with the restoration and maintenance.

Graben 27

The façade is composed of a mortised main area divided by numerous frame and window elements. The gable roofs with crowned projections add some variation. 
The generous layers of dispersion paint were sandblasted off during the comprehensive renovation, and all intact and destroyed plaster surfaces were removed. 
Damaged decorative elements were reconstructed meticulously by hand using reverse profile moulds. The worn plaster surface was then refurbished in several stages and sealed with a finishing coat of lime plaster. 
An arcade construction was erected with steel posts in order to ensure that the businesses on the ground floor could remain open and unhindered.
